Amazon does not sell Prime Video by itself in India. You subscribe to full Amazon Prime: ₹299 per month, ₹599 per quarter on eligible accounts, or ₹1,499 per year. We verified those figures directly against Amazon India’s membership help page on 29 Aug 2026. At that month’s exchange rate the annual plan works out to about $17 — against $139 per year for Prime in the United States, which makes India one of the cheapest official Prime markets anywhere.

One plan people still search for is gone. The Prime Video Edition at ₹599 per year — mobile-only, single screen — no longer appears on Amazon India’s plans page as of our August 2026 check. If you find an article still recommending it, it is out of date.

What each Prime India plan includes

Plan Price Video Other benefits
Prime monthly ₹299/month Full catalog, TV + mobile Delivery + Prime Music
Prime quarterly ₹599/3 months (eligibility-based) Full catalog Delivery + Prime Music
Prime annual ₹1,499/year Full catalog Delivery + Prime Music + best per-month rate
Prime Shopping Edition ₹399/year None Shopping benefits only

The key thing first-time subscribers miss: Prime in India is not a streaming plan with shopping perks bolted on. It is a shopping program whose biggest perks happen to include the video. Beyond Prime Video you get free fast delivery on eligible items, Prime Music (the ad-supported lite catalog rather than the full international Music offering), Prime Gaming drops, and early access to Lightning Deals. For most Indian households the delivery savings alone justify the annual fee before counting a single show.

If you want a straight comparison of what Prime’s music tier offers against dedicated services, our Spotify price in India breakdown covers the standalone-music math.

Why Prime costs so little in India

Purchasing power. A $139 annual bill is routine for a US household and unrealistic for most Indian ones, so Amazon prices Prime to the local market instead of converting its US rate. India is also Amazon’s most competitive streaming market: Netflix sells a mobile plan at ₹149, Disney+ Hotstar bundles with telecom carriers, and dozens of regional platforms fight over rupee-level pricing. We unpack this mechanism properly in why everything is cheaper in India — local pricing, taxes, competition, willingness-to-pay.

How do I actually pay for Prime in India?

Payment is the least painful part of Indian streaming:

  • UPI — including UPI autopay mandates for automatic renewals.
  • Indian debit and credit cards — RuPay, Visa, Mastercard.
  • Netbanking at signup.
  • Pay on Delivery — genuinely unusual for subscriptions: on eligible accounts Amazon lets the courier collect the annual Prime fee at your doorstep in cash, by card, or via UPI.

Foreign cards generally fail on Indian-billed accounts. Students should know Amazon India runs no dedicated Prime Student program — see our Amazon Prime student discount page for what exists elsewhere and what Indian students can use instead.

Adding channels: the Crunchyroll example

Prime Video Channels let you bolt third-party services onto your Prime membership, billed together. The clearest case: Crunchyroll costs ₹79 per month as a Prime channel add-on in India, versus ₹199 per month for a direct Crunchyroll Fan subscription. You need a Prime membership either way, so the channel route saves money but ties the anime subscription to your Amazon billing. Full numbers sit in our Crunchyroll price in India guide.

The honest note: your price follows your account, not your VPN

Prime billing is locked to the country your Amazon account was created in. An American account used over an Indian connection keeps paying US prices; an Indian account created here keeps paying ₹1,499 a year even when you travel. Changing countries requires updating your account settings with a local address and payment method, and Amazon restricts how often you can switch. For anyone physically in India this is academic: the domestic lineup already prices Prime near its cheapest anywhere, so there is nothing worth engineering around.
