YouTube Premium India has two prices, and the difference is bigger than any country-hopping scheme: the web checkout bills Individual at ₹149 per month (Google’s own India pricing since July 2024, per Livemint and Gadgets360 coverage), while our App Store row from the same Aug 29, 2026 check reads ₹289 / $3.02. Same plan. The gap is Apple’s cut.
That contrast is the whole strategy. If you want the India price, do not subscribe inside the iPhone app.
Which country is cheapest for YouTube Premium?
Not India. Nigeria tops our board at ₦2,200 / $1.63, with Egypt ($2.28) and Pakistan ($2.34) behind it. India’s ₹289 IAP row ranks further down — but its ₹149 web price beats every storefront row on this site. Full ranking: /service/youtube/.
Google billing: the ₹149 path
- Payments country = India. That’s the Google payments profile behind Play, not your UI language. Country changes have a cooldown and leftover Play balance doesn’t travel.
- Fund it like an Indian. Three rails complete checkout: UPI (including Google Pay), an India-issued card, or India-denominated Play gift codes redeemed at play.google.com/redeem. A US Visa with an Indian billing address is still a US card.
- Subscribe on youtube.com or Android, never inside iOS. Starting in the iPhone app routes you to Apple IAP at the higher rate.
- Read the sheet. It should show INR and the plan name. USD or AED means you’re buying the wrong country.
Play codes are country-locked. Buy one small code first, confirm the rupee balance lands, then top up. Anyone telling you to stock a year of codes before testing is selling codes.
If you set up a UPI autopay mandate, calendar the renewal date the same day — the auto-renewal trap turns cheap first months into surprise charges.
Prepaid plans: no card at all
Google also sells fixed-duration prepaid memberships in India — pay upfront, no auto-renew, documented up to long terms on support.google.com (accessed Aug 2026). For anyone wary of recurring mandates, this is the cleanest route: fund once with a Play code or UPI, done until it expires.
Apple billing: what changes
Our dated rows come from the App Store catalogue. On that rail the Apple ID must already be India, payment is an India card or Apple ID credit on that ID, and Play credit is useless. Family note: Family is ₹389 / $4.06 on our dated check — still far under the US family price — but members must be on a workable Google family group. Inviting relatives on foreign logins doesn’t make them India subscribers.
Risk without theatre: if you live in India, just pay normally — UPI makes it trivial. If you don’t, you’re modifying a Google account that likely holds your email.
