But something did change recently, and most articles ranking for this query have not caught up: Disney now sells a student rate on the ad-supported Disney+, Hulu Bundle at $6.49 per month, down from $12.99 (disneyplus.com offer page, checked 29 Aug 2026). It is roughly half off, it covers two services, and it is the only student pricing Disney offers anywhere.
So the honest answer splits in two:

- Willing to take the bundle? The $6.49 student rate is cheaper than even the ad-only Basic tier alone.

Three fine-print points matter more than the headline number:
- It dies with enrollment, not after four years. Unlike YouTube Premium’s student plan, there is no fixed cap here — but miss one annual SheerID re-verification and you roll onto the $12.99 full price automatically. Same silent-conversion trap we document in the auto-renewal trap.
- Ad-supported only. There is no path from the student bundle to an ad-free Premium experience at a discount.

Why there is no standalone student plan
Disney prices Disney+ as a family product. Its monetization strategy pushes single viewers toward the bundle — that is where the margin lives — so the student program was built as a bundle funnel: verify a college student once through SheerID, hook them on two services at $6.49, and collect $12.99 the day they graduate or forget to re-verify. A standalone student rate on Basic would undercut that ladder, so it does not exist. What students actually pay instead: the bundle math

The math is blunt. If you qualify as a student, the $6.49 bundle beats paying $11.99 for Basic alone by $5.50 a month and throws in Hulu. If you do not qualify, the regular $12.99 bundle is only a dollar more than Basic by itself — which is exactly the pressure the pricing is designed to apply.
The group-plan workaround
Every paid Disney+ tier allows multiple profiles under one subscription, and the standard (non-student) tiers include Premium’s four simultaneous streams. Roommates have always split one Premium subscription four ways: $18.99 divided by four is about $4.75 each, less than the student bundle, ad-free. The caveats are real and worth stating honestly: Disney’s terms expect members of one household, account sharing outside it violates those terms and Disney has been tightening enforcement across its streaming properties, and whoever owns the account controls billing for everyone on it. How to actually claim the student rate
If you are eligible, the flow takes about five minutes:
- Go to Disney’s student offer page from disneyplus.com (not the mobile app).
- Create or sign into your Disney+ account.
- Enter your full school name and a school or personal email in the SheerID form. Most verifications clear instantly; some need a document upload.
- Pay for the discounted bundle directly — card billing through Disney+, not an app store.
- Immediately calendar the re-verification window ~11 months out. That email is the whole ballgame.
How other streamers compare on student pricing
YouTube Premium runs a proper standalone student plan ($8.99/month in the US after April 2026, four-year cap): YouTube Premium student discount.
