The cheaper path nobody mentions: skip the app store
Our table above is the App Store price, because that is what we can verify storefront by storefront. It is also the worst deal Nord offers. Apple takes a cut of in-app subscriptions, so apps cost more. Nord says this plainly on its own pricing page: “NordVPN costs less when you order a special deal directly from our website.”
On nordvpn.com in August 2026, the US 2-year Basic deal works out to roughly $3.49/month billed as about $94 upfront (Tom’s Guide, Aug 2026). Compare that with $13.99 monthly in the app store and you save over $120 in year one without touching your region at all.
So who is regional pricing actually for? People who already pay through a Turkish or Egyptian account, or anyone who needs month-to-month billing. If you were going to hop regions anyway, look at the 12-month rows instead of monthly: Nigeria’s 12-month tier is ₦29,900 = $22.10, about 74% under the US equivalent, and Turkey’s 12-month is ₺459.99 = $9.60 — barely more than its own monthly.
One honest warning before you chase those numbers: the advertised intro rate is not forever. The same US page shows the $94.23 intro bill renewing at $139.08/year. Can I use a VPN to get cheaper NordVPN?
A VPN is a different product, and there is a chicken-and-egg problem here: you need a working account before a VPN helps you sign up like a local. Buying a cheap VPN country does not create a cheaper NordVPN account by itself.
What actually decides your price is where your account is registered and what payment method matches that country. A VPN alone changes none of that. Nord can flag mismatched billing, and a discounted signup bought this way sits on shakier ground than one you pay for honestly. If you still try it, use an account you would not mind losing.
How do I actually pay?
Two very different checkouts exist, and mixing them up wastes money:
Website (nordvpn.com) — the flexible one. Per Nord’s pricing and support pages (checked Aug 2026): all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Maestro), PayPal, Google Pay, Apple Pay, UnionPay, GrabPay, cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and stablecoins, and local bank rails such as Sofort/Klarna, iDEAL and Twint where offered. Prepaid cards work too, and some retail stores sell prepaid Nord cards you can buy with cash. Exact options depend on your country at checkout.

Will my account get banned?
It is usually a terms issue, not a crime. Providers can still close accounts that hop regions, and Nord’s support docs route app-store refunds back to Apple while handling website refunds themselves — another reason the website path gives you more control if something goes wrong. Do not buy a gray-market login from a stranger; those get recycled and locked.
